🥣 Cereal Box Challenge! 🥣

Our school is collecting unopened cereal boxes to donate to two local food pantries — and we’re turning it into a fun competition! Each class is racing to collect the most boxes, and the winning class will earn a class party! 🎉

Before we donate, we’ll be using all the boxes to build a huge cereal box domino maze for students to watch topple over — it’s going to be epic! 🙌

Let’s make a difference and have some fun doing it! 💛
Keep those cereal boxes coming in! 🥣

🏛🥔 The First Annual SES Potato Olympics! 🥇

Our 2nd graders wrapped up their Greek Civilization unit with a fun and creative twist — the Potato Olympics! Students designed their very own potato athletes and competed in events like gymnastics, dance, long jump, and distance rolling. 🏃‍♀️💃

It was an exciting way to bring history to life! The students learned so much about ancient Greece while having a blast cheering on their spud-tacular athletes! 🥔🎉

🌟 All-Star Spotlight: Mallory Berkey! 🌟

This week, we’re celebrating Mrs. Mallory Berkey! Mallory has been part of the Shipshe-Scott family for 14 years, and this year she made the exciting transition from 1st grade teacher to Interventionist.

Mallory is an incredible educator — knowledgeable, friendly, easy to work with, and someone who truly cares about her students. Her dedication and positive energy shine in everything she does. Outside the classroom, Mallory loves to travel and has explored 4 of the 7 continents (how amazing is that?!).

We’re so thankful to have Mallory as both a coworker and friend. Thank you for all you do, Mrs. Berkey! 💙✏️🌍

This year we have started something new! Each class has been paired up with another class in a different grade. Throughout the year the students will read books, complete worksheets, and participate in classroom activities together. We’re loving the new friendships and partnerships that are forming. Seeing students connect across grade levels is truly special!

🚒🔥 Our 1st and 3rd graders had some special visitors this week! Local firefighters Lyle Wingard and Chris Lord stopped by to teach students all about fire safety. The kids learned important tips, saw some demonstrations, and got a close-up look at the gear firefighters use to stay safe. A big thank you to Lyle and Chris for taking the time to share their knowledge and keep our students informed and safe! 👩‍🚒👨‍🚒

Our kindergarteners had the best time on their field trip to Knollbrook Farms last Tuesday! 🎃 They learned how pumpkins grow, met some friendly farm animals, and enjoyed a fun hayride. The kids also got to slingshot little pumpkins into a pond, explore the haybale maze, and play in the different kids’ activity areas. There was so much to do, and the students loved every minute of it on such a beautiful day! 🍂 Every student and parent even got to take home a pumpkin!

A big thank you to the wonderful folks at Knollbrook Farms, as well as the teachers and parents who helped out with our kiddos!🧡

🌟 All-Star Spotlight 🌟

This week’s All-Star is Heidi Mast, our amazing 2nd grade teacher here at Shipshe-Scott! Heidi has been shaping young minds in our school for 20 years, and even grew up walking these same halls as a student herself. She is consistent, knowledgeable, and always a great friend and teammate. We are so thankful for her dedication, her heart for kids, and the positive impact she’s had on our school community. 💙

Thank you for everything you do, Mrs. Mast!

This past week, all of our classes had the opportunity to enjoy a special presentation from the Fort Wayne Museum of Art! 🎨 The FWMOA team shared beautiful, animal-themed artwork that had our students looking closely, noticing details, and sharing their observations. They discussed the different moods in each piece and reflected on how the art made them feel. To wrap up the session, students tapped into their creativity with an animal-themed drawing activity of their own. Such a fun and meaningful way to experience the power of art!

🍽️📚 Welcome to Café Scottie! 📚🍽️

Our 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders enjoyed a special “book tasting” hosted by our wonderful librarian, Mrs. Whittern. Students sampled different books, explored new genres, and then gave each book a star rating based on how much they enjoyed it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

It was such a fun way to get kids excited about reading and discovering new favorites. Thank you, Mrs. Whittern for serving up such a creative and engaging experience!

Our 4th graders had a blast at Sauder Village! 🎉 They stepped back in time to explore life from Native Americans and pioneers all the way through the 1920s. The day was filled with hands-on fun—riding a train, checking out a silent movie theater, browsing the gift shops, and even stopping for ice cream at the old-fashioned soda shop. 🍦 What an amazing way to learn history by experiencing it!
