Governor Eric Holcomb announced today that all Indiana schools will be closed through May 1st, and all state standardized tests are canceled. Westview will continue to put together plans to meet the needs of our school community. For now, stay safe and positive.

To everyone in the Westview community, don't forget to complete the 2020 Census. The data you provide remains confidential and helps the federal government determine how much financial support they will give our schools, fire departments, police force, and local transportation. Both the paper and online forms are easy to navigate. Our community needs all of us to be counted, so we can be adequately funded. Thank you! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qzmB5oJQ_z4&authuser=0

Hello Westview Community,                            March 14, 2020 For those who have shown support towards Westview School Corporation and served as positive role models with your children throughout the past week, thank you. True character reveals itself during these times, and that character is reflected within our students. It takes a village to raise our children and we all make a difference. We have taken every scenario related to the growing momentum of COVID-19 and sliced it many ways to deliberate an outcome that puts Westview in a position that stays true to ourselves and our academic quality while balancing community safety.    Westview will go to school March 16th, 17th, and 18th. We want our community to have time to make necessary arrangements due to the closure of school for an extended time.  We will then take off the 10 days before spring break, March 19th to April. 1st.  We have scheduled off April 2nd and 3rd for snow-make-up.  Spring break is April 6th to 10th.   We will then take off the 5 days after spring break too, April 13th to 17th. We will plan on returning to school April 20th.  This plan leaves us 5 remaining waiver days and we may use them. Due to the day to day changes in this situation, we want to make sure the use of those 5 days will be necessary. This plan gives us a four and a half week break to then reassess our circumstances. Plans could be altered based on any mandate by our governor, IDOE, or IDOH.   To summarize, Westview will be closed from March 19th until April 17th with a projected return date of April 20th.  You should be prepared for all circumstances concerning our return date and finishing school.    To keep our community safest, we encourage you to stay at home and not to travel based on conditions. Practice your everyday preventive measures of hygiene. Your travel and movements in the coming weeks will expose you and our community to the spread of this COVID-19 virus. The duplicity within the thought process of keeping our children at home and then ourselves traveling around, should give everyone caution and pause. We will reassess the situation every week going forward. Our circumstances at Westview and within our community will change week by week.  It is an absolute honor to be a part of Westview. Take care. Sincerely, Dr. Randall Miller

Westview Staff, Students, and Parents, The intention of this correspondence is to relay understanding and communication. Westview has been following recent media reports and information from The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) about Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The Federal Government and several Indiana governmental agencies are working closely with both national and regional public health partners to respond to this threat. Some parents and students might be worried about this virus and how it may impact our schools and communities. Be assured that we are aware of these concerns and are proactively working to insure our schools are safe and clean for all students and staff. The safety of our students and employees is paramount. This is an emerging situation and we will provide updated information as it becomes available and relevant to us. How can our whole community help with the spread of the common cold, influenza, and COVID-19 with everyday preventive measures? Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, if soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands Avoid close contact with anyone with cold or flu-like symptoms Stay home when you are sick Cover your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing, if you don’t have tissue, cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve or elbow Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces How can parents help? Again, our school nurses and staff will be working with students to promote good hygiene and to keep everyone healthy and safe. We also work with our custodians to ensure our schools receive thorough cleaning every day. Parents are asked for help in reinforcing healthy practices at home with children. Also, parents are asked to not reinforce untrue stereotypes, baseless claims, or fear when talking to your children. Let’s work together on this and take the common sense approach describe above. In the past, our community has experienced similar health issues with measles, chicken pox, H1N1, and whooping cough. If you have questions call your doctor or school nurse. Our school nurses are working closely with our county health department.

The Westview School Corporation reminds you to complete the 2020 Census that will be arriving soon. Census data drives funding for many community needs including our schools. Each uncounted child may reduce federal school funding by nearly $1,000 per year. That equates to approximately $10,000 per uncounted child over a 10 year period. Together, we can make sure every child counts!  For more information go to 2020census.gov

Snow make-up days So far we have had a decent Winter in terms of having no school cancelations. If we would happen to cancel school before Monday, February 17th (snow make-up day),  then we will be going to school on that day. If we miss school on or after February, 17th up to March, 19th, then we will go to school on March, 20th (snow make-up day).   We can't predict the future with weather so we will take the opportunity to use the built-in school calendar days if we have prior cancelations. This concept will also apply for the 2 days prior to Spring break.
